January arrives with its familiar sense of possibility — a time when many of us look for ways to move more, meet new people, or simply try something different. At Moor Pool Heritage Trust, we believe that resolutions shouldn’t be burdensome. They should be enjoyable, sustainable and rooted in community.
Whether you’re hoping to get fitter, learn a new skill or become more involved in local life, our regular activities offer something for every age, pace and interest.
Get active, stay motivated
If your goal for 2026 is to build healthier habits, there’s no better place than the tranquil surroundings of Moor Pool. Our regular activities make movement social and rewarding:
Tennis at Moor Pool Tennis Club or the Circle Tennis Club: A perfect way to improve your fitness while having fun. Whether you’re picking up a racket for the first time or returning to an old hobby, the clubs’ inclusive sessions will make you feel right at home.
- Crown Green Bowling at Moor Pool Bowls Club: good fun and good exercise in a beautiful location. The season runs from April to October. Members range from complete beginners and those who prefer to play socially to those who play in local Leagues.
- Get on your bike with the Circle Cycling Club: a friendly bunch of enthusiasts who meet most Sunday mornings for a 10-18 mile, free leisure-ride in and around Birmingham. Lead by qualified leaders and under the auspices of Cycling UK.
Live your Strictly dreams at dance classes: From energetic Line Dancing, Salsa and Capoeira classes to more gentle Keep Dancing sessions, these are fantastic for boosting confidence as well as cardio.
- Go with the flow with yoga, pilates and Tai Chi: chilled out sessions at various times throughout the week, in both indoor and outdoor venues.
No matter your fitness level, there’s a group ready to cheer you on.
Try something new this year
A new hobby is one of the most uplifting resolutions you can make and Moor Pool’s community spaces are filled with opportunities to spark your curiosity.
- Perfect your trick shot at Harborne Tenants Snooker Club: located above the Estate office at the Circle, the Snooker Club is a friendly and relaxed club open to new members.
Hit the target at Moor Pool Air Gun Club: located in the Lower Hall and meeting twice weekly, experienced Range Officers are members and coaching is available.
Score a strike at Moor Pool Skittle Club: joining the Skittle Club is a great way to enjoy gentle exercise, jovial banter and try out an unusual pastime!
- Land a catch at Moor Pool Fishing Club: located at the Pool and welcomes new members.
- Grow your own on a Moor Pool allotment: there are 70 allotments that are maintained and leased by local residents. There is currently a waiting list for these allotments.
You never know – the skill you pick up this year may become the highlight of your weekly routine!
Build community and meet new people
One of the greatest benefits of joining regular activities at Moor Pool is the sense of belonging that follows.
- Discover new films with Circle Cinema: become a member and take advantage of discounted tickets and the opportunity to vote for which films are screened.
- Restore and sustain habitats with Moor Pool Wildlife Group: join this enthusiastic group to learn more about Moor Pool ecology and wildlife gardening.
- Get lost in a book with Moor Pool Reading Group: join lively discussions, discover new authors, and connect with fellow book lovers in a relaxed environment.
- Get involved with the Harborne Village WI: campaign for change, get inspired, learn a new craft and make new friends.
Give your time as a volunteer: if your resolution involves giving back or spending more time outdoors, volunteering with our garden groups or fundraising team offers meaningful ways to contribute to the Estate.
- Join us for Wednesday Warm Welcome: enjoy a hot drink and a biscuit or two in our warm and welcoming Estate Office.
Every activity supports the spirit at the heart of Moor Pool: people coming together, sharing time and interests, and building on the Estate’s strong sense of community.
Fun and learning for children and families
For families looking to start the year with fresh routines, Moor Pool offers a variety of engaging children’s activities that make learning and play part of the weekly rhythm.
- Help little ones stay active with Mini Athletics and Little Kickers: weekly sports sessions to help burn off some energy and learn the basics of athletics and football.
- Build confidence and creativity with One Day Theatre, Baby Ballet and Mezzo Dance Company: expressive theatre and dance performance classes for children of all ages.
- Meet and play with other families at Moor Pool Toddler Group: a relaxed stay and play session where babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers can play and parents can socialise.
- Enjoy music and sensory play with Little Sprouts, BilinguaSing, Blissful Bath Babies and Baby Glowbugs.
Getting involved with a Moor Pool activity is a wonderful way for children to grow, explore and make new friends right on their doorstep.
