People of Moor Pool: The Gordon Family

As part of our 10th anniversary celebrations, we’re featuring ten ‘People of Moor Pool’.

Becca, Tom and their two daughters are one of the many young families who call Moor Pool home. We caught up with them to ask them a few questions:

How long have you lived on Moor Pool?

We have lived in Moor Pool since 2018. I (Becca) have lived in Harborne my whole life though, bar university and a couple of very expensive years in London.

What do you think makes Moor Pool such a special place?

The people. We are so lucky that we have made so many wonderful friends due to the community spirit that is central to the area. From the Santa walk at Christmas to the groups at the hall, everything is focused on bringing the community together.

What is your favourite Moor Pool memory?

The first Santa walk after Covid. It had been such a hard time for so many families and to watch our little lockdown babies eyes light up as she watched Santa on his sleigh go around the estate was just magical.

Why do you think it’s important that MPHT saved the community spaces from redevelopment in 2014?

As we mentioned earlier, community is so integral to the families of Moor Pool. Having a community space as a young family is imperative. We enjoy going to the allotments with friends, ballet classes at the hall and we go every week to the toddler group. These events and spaces create friendships, help people during tough times and really make Moor Pool the community-driven and friendly place that it is.

What is your favourite place/spot on the Estate?

The pool. We are incredibly lucky that we have a beautiful view of the pool from our house. Watching the seasons change on the pool, seeing the nature and waking up to a view that makes you feel like you’re in the middle of the countryside rather than a busy city, is so special.

Is there anything you’d like to see happen on the Estate over the next 10 years?

As a family with a 1 year old and a 5 year old we would love a playground! A place for little ones to play together and for us tired Mums and Dads to have a bit of respite and a natter with other parents would be amazing.
