For several years now, Moor Pool Heritage Trust has been fundraising to improve the Main Hall lobby and toilet area, incorporating better wheelchair access and improved facilities to the benefit of those that use the hall (including heating, baby changing and a general upgrade of the facilities).
Thanks to funding from the WA Cadbury Charitable Trust and money raised at our community events, work to complete the access ramp at the side of the hall – phase one of the project – was completed in summer 2025.
Having already raised substantial funds, the Trust took a major step forward last year by appointing professional advisers to support phase two of the Moor Pool Hall Refurbishment Project. With their expertise, we’ve now secured detailed quotes and selected a preferred builder – an exciting milestone in a long journey.
However, like many construction projects in the current climate, costs have risen significantly. What was originally estimated at around £100,000 is now likely to be closer to double that figure. This sharp increase has understandably had a major impact on our plans.
We are actively pursuing a number of grant applications to help bridge the funding gap and get work underway. Unfortunately, with grant-giving bodies also tightening their criteria, securing the necessary support is proving challenging.
As a result, it is now looking increasingly unlikely that we will be able to complete the work this year. After so much time, effort and commitment from everyone involved, this is deeply disappointing for the Trustees, who are keenly aware that many in the Moor Pool community and our supporters will feel the same.
We remain fully committed to delivering these much-needed improvements and will continue working hard to move the project forward as soon as circumstances allow.
